Osaka, Japan — SNK Corporation is pleased to announce that THE PATH OF THE WARRIOR: ART OF FIGHTING 3 R, a revamped version of the third title in the Art of Fighting series, will be added to the NEOGEO Premium Selection lineup. Details regarding the release date and launch plans will be announced at a later date.

 

 

 

Product Features

This title is a remastered version of THE PATH OF THE WARRIOR: ART OF FIGHTING 3, originally released in 1996. It has been optimized for modern platforms with various gameplay and system improvements. The game is known for its high degree of freedom, dynamic action, and rich animation that pushed beyond the conventions of traditional fighting games.

 

Long regarded as the most distinctive entry in the series, this remaster preserves the unique qualities of the original while introducing modern features such as online multiplayer to appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers. Most notably, it adds two entirely new playable characters, making it far more than a conventional remaster and transforming it into a significantly expanded and refined version of the original game.

 

The “R” added to the title reflects the project’s core concepts, embodied by words such as “Reignite,” “Retuned,” and “Revival.” It also pays tribute to the series’ iconic protagonists, Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia, whose names share the same initial.

About ART OF FIGHTING

Originally released by SNK for the NEOGEO in 1992, Art of Fighting is one of SNK’s flagship fighting game franchises. Known in Japan as Ryuuko no Ken (“Dragon-Tiger Fist”), the series helped define the early era of competitive fighting games. The first title was followed by ART OF FIGHTING 2 in 1994 and ART OF FIGHTING 3 in 1996, the title upon which this remaster is based.

Centered on karate masters Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia, the series combines story-driven action and intense fighting in the crime-ridden city of South Town. 

 

About ART OF FIGHTING 3

A spin-off entry in the Art of Fighting series, the game is set in Glasshill Valley and follows the battles and personal stories of a diverse cast of martial artists. It introduced major gameplay innovations, including attack parries, pursuit attacks on downed opponents, and the Ultimate KO system, which allows a match to be decided with a single decisive blow. Visually, the game broke new ground for 2D fighting games in 1996, featuring remarkably fluid sprite animation created using rotoscoping techniques based on motion-captured performances.
